From Manhattan to Midnight in Paris

tumblr_lsga32VF3L1qfpcnio1_500

Tom got me the best present for valentines day.. He got me an album called "From Manhattan to Midnight in Paris" which is a collection of songs from all my favourite Woody Allen films.

I remember when I was single valentines day was such a big deal, but now (like my birthday) it's just another day, perhaps with a few more kisses than normal. I hope you had a lovely day and I hope that you did not get red roses (so tacky!)

News + shoes

Want to hear a funny story? The winner of my lark giveaway was a woman who lives in WA, when she gave me her address I asked her (as a joke) if she knew some friends of ours who lived in the same town. Not only did she know our friends, but we realised (after several emails) that her husband went to primary school with Tom and used to live across the road from where we live now. Tom had not spoken to him in years, but remembers spending school holidays at his parents holiday house! Seriously, how small is the world!

I have to go to the hospital every few days for blood tests at the moment as part of my fertility treatment. I look like a human pincushion.. my poor arms are full of holes!

You may have noticed my new blog design. I am so, so happy with the re-design by the very talented Mervi from 'My Best Friend Jules'. If you are thinking about a new design for your blog I can highly recommend Mervi. She was such a pleasure to deal with!

And in other news, Sophie likes to dress like me. Sometimes she even gets changed just so she can wear "the same as mummy". Its a little embarrassing. Hence the matching shoes (luckily not the same colour)!

I'm having an orange moment. Any shade will do.

Maybe it's my Dutch blood?

Jemima

IMG_9752

Sophie has never been attached to a particular toy or blanket (or anything really).
She has never had a "comforter" of any sort, even when she was a baby.
But lately this Jemima doll has to come with us everywhere.
Everywhere.

Little lost girl.

On Saturday morning Sophie and I were walking up to the Subi farmers market when we found a little girl (about 1 year old) standing on the footpath by herself. I couldn't see anyone else around but I just couldn't believe that she was there by herself.
I kept asking her "Where is your mummy?" but she would just toddle off down the street. I picked her up and waited on the footpath with her.

After waiting about 10 minutes I decided to knock on the door of one of the houses on the street. I knocked on the door of about 20 houses before I found a woman who said "I know her, she lives in the yellow house around the corner".
We walked up to the yellow house, which was about 2 blocks from where I found the little girl and knocked on the door.
"Excuse me" I said "I think I have your baby?!!!???!"

The little girl had just wondered out the door and down the street. Her parents had NO IDEA that she was gone! (They thought that the screen door was locked.) She had crossed 2 roads to get to where I found her!
Can you believe it??
Her parents were incredibly embarrassed and incredibly grateful.

I cuddled Sophie just a little bit tighter that night.

*Photo of Sophie on the weekend.. she is growing up so quickly. Sigh.

Inked.

I am not a huge fan of tattoos. This may come as quite a surprise to anyone who knows me as I actually have three myself. (I know.. Ek!)
Now, don't get me wrong.. a beautifully drawn design in just the right place on the right person can look amazing, but the majority of tattoos I see make me cringe a little*.

katie on cottesloe
(This is the only photo I could find that vaguely shows 2 of my tattoos. This photo was taken in Perth last year.. you can see why we are moving there can't you?)

I got all of mine when I was quite young and had no idea how to contemplate the meaning of 'forever'.
The worst thing is that I think they are now quite embarrassing** and I feel like they don't fit with the person that I have become at all.
Although, 99% of the time I don't even remember that they are there, occasionally (like when my 3 year old daughter asks who did all the drawings on mummy? or can she get drawings like mummy when she is bigger?) I feel a little sense of regret.

So, tell me.. Do you have a tattoo or two? Would you ever get one? What do you think of them?

*I understand that this is a completely subjective view and I obviously keep my views to myself!
**You know those (awful) tattoo designs that scream 'early 90's'.. yep.. mine are those!
